Jane Johnson

Valerie Jane Sumrall Johnson

Jane Johnson is a music composer of 16 years, beginning with a high school play where the first piece she wrote in college was selected for the background fill- in music.  That same year Jane wrote an instrumental number for another high school play. From that point on, she has been hooked.  Composing music has become so fulfilling for her. In short, Jane is able to create musical thoughts ranging from light-hearted to the deepest emotions of life’s experiences.

Style of Music

Most of Jane’s music fits into the category of classical contemporary (New Classical).  She creates instrumentals of easy-listening, dark, Gothic war and conflict, dramatic, soundtracks as well as emotional, meditative, etc. Usually, Jane composes on her Steinway and Sons piano and then uses the Sibelius program to score for printing. The listener will hear solo piano songs, piano duets, and orchestrated compositions. Her musical influences include Rachmaninoff, Mozart, John Williams, Danny Elfman, and Phillip Glass.

Musical Education

Jane spent four years of college at Delta State University in Cleveland, MS where she majored in Special Education and minored in music.  Little did she realize after taking piano lessons since the 3rd grade that she would one day be composing music.

Hobbies

Obviously, her most favorite hobby is writing music.  She has written her best works on the weekends when she has more time or in the evenings after supper.

She also enjoys working out in the yard, quilting, decorating her house, playing with her four grandchildren & reading an occasional book.

Dreams

Jane’s dream is to be able to take lyrics or poetry and write musical scores.  This is so easy and simple for many musicians but so far not for her.

 Projects

Composing pieces for her publisher to be heard on different venues throughout the world.
